John was hands down THE best mortgage loan officer I have ever worked with. I came across John in a Yelp search based on his 5 star reviews. From our initial contact John didn't miss a beat. I gave him a call one day, provided him with all of the necessary information, and had a pre-approval letter the next day. John informed me all about the process, provided excellent strategic advice (which actually ended up being a big boost for the overall transaction), gave me to the date timelines, and stayed connected throughout the entire process. He didn't interrupt mybwork days with constant calls or emails, and was very responsive via email/text/phone. I even text him one evening around 11pm end he responded! Although John and our realtor had never worked together, they were able to quickly make the necessary connection behind the scenes, not once needing me to be the "middle man". The same was true of his interaction with the title company officer. When I say John was like a ninja in this process, believe me. I've worked with John for the past 2 years on home mortgages and came with high recommendations from an agent I was working with at the time. John is very responsive, communicates clearly and his team is very on-the-ball. Often times, I get reminder emails and phone calls from his team to speed along the loan process. Completely long overdue review of the wonderful services that John Z provides! John has provided superb service to me on two mortgages as well as getting me out of one. In 2016, my then partner and I were referred to John by our RE agents when putting an offer on our first house. We needed a pre-approval letter within 24 hours and John was able to produce it for us. During the mortgage application process, John expertly guided us through the entire way, taking the time to explain each step, provide us with pros and cons for each decision we had to make regarding the mortgage, etc. Everything was seamless. Several months into our mortgage, John reached out, notified us of lower interest rates, and helped us refinance to save us several hundred dollars a month. At the end of 2017/beginning of 2018, when my partner and I were going our separate ways and needed to figure out what to do with the house we had just bought together and remaining mortgage, John took an hour out of his day to talk us through our options in terms of what it meant for me to keep my name on the current mortgage until ex sold (ex was going to keep the house) or remove myself completely and have the ex refinance. He walked us through the financial pros/cons and risks to each option, as well as to each of us as individuals. I eventually decided to remove myself completely from the house/mortgage, and while this was a confusing and emotionally brutal time for me (due to the ugly split from partner and losing my dream house, not anything to do with the banking), John helped make the experience much easier to swallow by again very professionally and seamlessly navigating both sides of taking me off the old mortgage, and helping the ex with refinancing. I frequently email/called with questions and without fail, John always got back to me within a few hours to answer my questions and walk me through points I wasn't fully understanding. Afterward, thinking I was priced out of the crazy Bay Area RE market on a single income, I resigned myself to becoming a renter again. However, on a rare opportunity, I was able to become a homeowner a second time and fortunate enough have to John as my mortgage agent. John ran several different scenarios for me regarding different down payment sizes, fixed rate vs ARM while providing me pros/cons/risks for each so that I was equipped with all the info I needed to make the most appropriate decision regarding my mortgage. My application was a bit more complicated this time around due to the fact that I was going to be the sole loan borrower with different sources of down payment, but he and his team very patiently and efficiently guided me through every step, explaining why certain items/documents were needed. While the closing process typically takes about 30 days to complete, both the seller and I were keen on a quick turnaround and John was able to complete the closing process for us in 21 days!! The seller was able to start her retirement earlier with no more ties to the house, and I was able to move into my new forever home a week before I left for a 2 month sabbatical. One last thing that was WAY above and beyond the service expected, was that John, knowing my agents would unfortunately not be able to come to my signing, took time out of his day to come in their place. As I was doing this on my own this time around, I sincerely appreciated the moral/emotional support his presence provided. I'm forever grateful for all that John has done for me and for playing a huge role in helping me get a fresh start with a new forever home.

I speak for both myself and my partner when I say John was amazing in the home buying process. The financial aspect of buying a home can be a daunting and intimidating task, luckily we were able to find John.... After knowing him for only a couple of days we were already FaceTiming him to pick his brain and ask him questions (most likely silly ones) at all hours of the day. He brought a certain level of expertise and familiarity that we both found super refreshing and helpful. I started my house search in Oct 2017 and noticed that all real estate agents I met typically have their own loan agents that they like to work with. John was recommended to me by a real estate agent that i didn't end up using. Even though my real estate agent preferred to work with her own people, I went with my gut feeling and chose John because he was just really easy to talk to, professional and very well-organized. Incidentally, Wells Fargo offered me the best rate. I work in finance and that makes me very detailed-oriented. I threw so many different scenarios at John, not to mention my purchase budget fluctuated repeatedly depending on the property I was interested in. John was really patient and always cheerful. I was also very appreciative of how John was not at all put off by my finance background and my need to get into gritty details like ratios, rental property vs primary residence, etc. I'd pose a scenario, John would run the numbers. Rinse and repeat, until I was happy. When i finally put in a pre-emptive offer after a month of house-hunting, John worked with my real estate agent to put together that offer over the weekend (yeah, he worked weekends and answer emails early in the morning!). A few days after that, we went on vacation in Europe, so John also had to help me manage the loan approval/escrow/etc while we were out of the country. There were so many documents to e-sign, and multiple people within Wells Fargo who would contact me for a variety of documents, so it was really reassuring to have John track all the different milestones and progress during the loan process. John even helped us figure out a contingency plan in case we had to close on our property while being out of country (via scheduling a physical sign-off in a US Consulate although thankfully it didn't come to that!). Anyway, I cannot say enough good things about John. Home buying in SF is a painful process to say the least, but I felt very, very fortunate to have some one like John on my team!

We worked with John on our latest single family home purchase and we have nothing but positive things to say about him. He was upfront about setting expectations in the loan process, helped organize everything ahead of time and was very accessible and responsive during all phases. One example: We decided to submit a preemptive offer and needed a preapproval letter immediately. John answered his cell while driving to Tahoe and was able to coordinate with one of his colleagues to get the letter in hand within 10 minutes. Upon closing, he drove 45 min to the escrow office to be present during signing. (He didn't have to be there at all, but we appreciate the personal level of attention and care) We will absolutely work with John again

My husband and I started looking for a home on the Peninsula in January and, knowing we were up against the toughest housing market in the country, we researched/interviewed a number of people to put the best team together. John was extremely patient and understanding as we made our decision. I'm a picky attorney that wants to know all the details and does not work well with bs. I am fully aware that I'm not the most relaxed person to deal with and wanted to make sure we found a good fit. In the end, Wells offered the best rate and John exceeded our expectations. He educated us in detail about the process, provided strategic advice, and was a genuinely kind and easy guy to work with. He was extremely responsive via phone/text/email (i.e. took calls at 8:30 pm on a Sunday night while out to dinner with family and 7am on multiple offer days). My husband works in the tech industry and has a frequent vesting schedule throughout the year. John was very agile to work with these financial changes and updated our pre-approval multiple times. We were out of town on the day of our closing, which I'm sure frustrated John, but he took it all in stride. He was prepared to close 5 days before our planned 21 day closing - our title company and realtor were amazed. Also worth mentioning - we ended up selecting a realtor that did not have a previous relationship with John. I know most realtors/mortgage consultants would prefer to work with partners they already know, but John worked seamlessly with our realtor. My overall advice: buying a home is a stressful enough process, make sure your team is rock solid and does not add to the stress. I give John my highest recommendation and absolutely encourage you to add him to your team.

We've worked with John twice now, the first time to purchase a house from a family member a couple of years ago, and the second to refinance the loan on that same house in order to do repairs on it last year. Both times John went above and beyond the call of duty to help us navigate through the mortgage process and figure out the best ways to reach our goals. Context: I bought a single family home back in November This was my first time working with John. I have worked with several brokers over the years. Why I enjoyed working with John and his team: 1) Flexibility - my finances were not quite the norm and I was in the midst of changing jobs. John and his team were able to find ways to 'unlock my assets' so I had the strongest application as possible. This was useful in getting the ideal interest rate and loan amount. 2) Clarity of communication This was the biggest purchase of my life. That's scary to me so making sure I knew what was going on was key. His communication was clear, concise and action oriented so I knew what to do, when and why. 3) Speed of work Most email and phone replies where in the minutes to hours range, not days. This included weekends. At no point did I feel like he was preventing me from moving forward. In fact, it was often the instance where he was waiting on me for information. This was important to me since I wanted to close before Thanksgiving.

. We were trying to buy a house in SF, which is a daunting task no matter who you are. We were referred to John by our agent - and everything suddenly became simple. Smart, responsive, friendly and patient - John treats you like a family member that he really likes. We had our concerns of course - we were on a tight timeline , and John was on his way out of the country for a vacation.... John kept in contact the whole time and everything came together simply and smoothly. I cannot think of a scenario where could have had better guidance or had a better experience Thank you John ! :)

We had an outstanding experience working with John, for our first home purchase a little over two years ago, and for our refinance this past fall. There were many points in which things could have gotten complicated, and John knew what to do to make it smooth sailing. For instance, we had a repair that had to be done before our refinance could be approved, and he advised us brilliantly. He's knowledgable, super helpful, responsive, and just all around great to work with. We would not hesitate to work with John again in the future and highly recommend him.

John was by far the best mortgage broker I've ever worked with. John is THE reason why we now have our beautiful new home in San Francisco. Although we were hoping to buy eventually, we didn't think we had enough for a down-payment to purchase the type of home we would like. One day we were killing some time before the Anchor Steam Brewery tour and popped into an Open House where we met John who was there along with the realtor. He answered our questions and was able to quickly discuss some options and plans to be able to make our home-buying an option now, rather than in one year. In this market, waiting 1 year could mean being out-priced, so we followed up with a personal appointment at his office. We discussed our financial situation, he ran the numbers and was great at providing us options we never even thought of to present various scenarios. He was able to expeditiously run our credit, get us pre-approved and under-written, to make our potential offers be as strong as possible. John knew that we were somewhat nervous about any possible appraisal issues, so he devised a back-up plan (without our even asking) to put our minds at ease and to help prepare for a worst-case scenario (which we luckily never had to worry about). John was available 24/7. He responded quickly to our myriad of questions (many times late at night and on the weekends). He had everything prepared so when it came to presenting offers, he had all the paperwork ready and worked closely with our real estate agent to prepare a strong offer package. He even called the listing agent to discuss our financial situation, making the case for why we were strong buyers. After about 2 months and over 50 open houses later we saw a property that had everything we were looking for. Along with out real estate agent, John was all over it. He helped us with getting the offer submitted and accepted. Once that was done, John was amazing at guiding us through the closing process. He was on top of getting the appraisal ordered ASAP. He helped ensure we had the funds sent correctly to the escrow company for the initial deposit. He answered 1000 of our questions. All of those were very professional and extremely timely. He worked closely with the under-writers and title company to get all the paperwork prepared for the closing. About 21 days after the offer, thanks to John, we were signing all the documents. What was also unexpected was that John also personally attended the document signing to make sure all went smoothly. Fortunately none of the paperwork (tons of documents to sign) needed to be edited as all were correctly prepared. Once we completed signing all the paperwork, we felt such a relief and felt extremely happy that thanks to John we now were able to own a small part of San Francisco. To top it off, before we parted ways, John left us with an amazing unexpected present. I would highly recommend John to anyone looking for a mortgage. Thanks John for everything!!!

John is simply, amazing. He's super knowledgable about loan products and was able to find the right configuration for our refinancing needs. He timed the close on our refi to our purchase of our vacation property, closing earlier than he'd committed. In addition, all his paperwork process is streamlined online, eliminating the nightmare of back and forth document requests that I've experienced with other lenders. He's professional and very responsive. Calls back and answers questions right away. I recommend him highly, and will use him again for all of our home lending needs.

We cannot say enough positive things about John. He has helped us through two tricky home purchases now. The first home we bought with John was tough because I'm a private business owner, we owned a second property (with no rental history), my husband has multiple jobs (some of which have varied incomes from month to month), and we have some pretty hefty student loans. John was able to get us into our home without any hiccups! Our most recent purchase was "interesting" because in addition to everything we had with the first house (although, at this point we have proof of rental income) we had a VERY long close of escrow on the home we were selling as well as the home we were buying (4 1/2 months). The extended close was due to tax purposes, but John took it all in stride. He was able to coordinate everything so that not only did we close on our new house the DAY AFTER the close on the sale of our previous house, but it was also stress free! John is organized, thorough, and just a really great guy! Thank you John!!

John is simply amazing. We were having lots of trouble dealing with an incompetent broker at another branch of Wells Fargo and were very concerned with being able to secure the loan. That's when we reached out to John who was highly recommended by our agent. John stepped in and walked us through every step of the way. He was always in communication and could be easily reached; not to be underestimated in this market. He was always cheerful and helped us manage the stress of buying a new home. The best part? A colleague recommended me to John and my conclusion after working with John is to echo the Yelp rating of "Woohoo! As good as it gets!" John was nothing short of phenomenal in getting our mortgage done in time to close. He was completely on top of the entire process, guiding us through it step-by-step. His responsiveness is so great you would think he was psychic, anticipating your every question and/or potential roadblock to getting the loan approved. John helped us finance our first home and we couldn't have been happier with his service! We were referred to him via a coworker who works in commercial real estate, and we knew that she has high standards so we also had high expectations -- and were not disappointed. We first reached out to John with less than a week before offers were due, and he immediately made time to meet with us, driving up from the peninsula to SF on a weeknight to make sure everything was in order in time. He also helped us get underwritten, which strengthened our offer. We ultimately didn't get that house, but I firmly believe that John was instrumental in us winning our second offer, by campaigning on our behalf and vouching for our financial strength even though we were only offering 10% down. So, I have to admit... I had known John well before he was my broker. At first, I was cautious to work with a friend, but decided as a first time homebuyer that I would appreciate the extra help. I immediately experienced his professionalism, responsiveness and patience. He answered every question I had, offered his advice and his concern when necessary. A friend recommended John to us, and he was tremendously helpful in our first home-buying experience. We were in a somewhat unique situation, and John was able to work with us to get the loan we needed, and came through fast when we needed it. He was very responsive over email, which was really helpful since it was hard for us to answer the phone at work during the day. He went over all the paperwork to make sure we didn't miss anything and understood everything, answered our questions as they came up, and was in constant communication with us. John was awesome. He really has shown me how a smooth process can help make the refinancing so pleasurable. It's thanks to him for making it go well. He not only responded to my calls, emails and texts very quickly but also helped us navigate through all the unnecessary automated mailings we received from Wells Fargo. I can't say enough great things about John. He worked with us in December on our move from SF to the burbs in Millbrae. In the Peninsula, he has a wonderful reputation of helping his clients win extremely competitive offers and completing crazy quick closings, even with complicated situations. This was exactly our story. We believe his reputation helped us win with our offer even though we were not the highest. Our situation was also tricky as we owned a three unit apartment building in SF and lived in one of the units. We had planned on keeping the entire building in SF as investment property. John just helped me complete the purchase of my new home and I could not be more pleased with his service and expertise during the daunting financing process. My boyfriend and I recently purchased our first home in San Mateo (he works in SF, and I work in Mountain view), and I can honestly say that John was very instrumental in helping us get our home, on the very first offer we made!! We are both young professionals, and either we were really lucky, or we were in really good hands and received great advice. I tend to think it was the latter, especially after talking with many of our friends who have put in several offers on homes and still have yet to get into one in our tough real estate market. We sort of got lucky that we ended up working with John. Our realtor had recommended us to another lender when we first started looking for a home in the peninsula, and that person was actually fairly pleasant to work with. Even though he was nice, I'm the type of person who likes to compare things to make sure I'm getting the best price. I actually looked on Yelp to find a few other lenders to check out and see what they had to offer for us, and one of them was John. Of all the people I spoke to, John provided us with the best interest rate of them all, but that wasn't even the best part. Like many other reviewers mentioned, the level of service that we received was off the charts. Knowing that we were first time buyers, he took the time to answer all of our many questions, and made sure that we understood all of the details. He was extremely prompt in getting back to us, even responding at midnight in many cases!! Crazy, I swear he must not sleep or something. The BIG win for us was that John didn't just get us pre-approved for a loan with great terms, he educated us on what it would take to be successful in this very competitive real estate market. When facing multiple offers on a property, he told us about the importance of having a very strong offer, and what exactly that meant. Basically you need to have the least amount of contingencies in the shortest time. He walked us through the various contingencies in the real estate contract, so that we knew exactly what it meant, and any potential risks of not having them. I truly believe that this understanding was key in us getting our offer accepted on the very first try, among 6 other competing offers!! We are happy homeowners now and can't thank John enough for advising us on what we needed to do to get into this home. Our realtor was even quite impressed on how quick and flawless the transaction went, and she said that she was going to start referring her clients to him from now on. John Z is great to work with! Our realtor recommended him and we were very happy with the experience. We were 1st time home buyers and he provided great service every step of the way. He took his time explaining issues and was fast about getting back to us with any questions we had. He made the process as stress free as possible. John was instrumental in our recent home purchase in San Francisco. In fact, our offer was accepted in large part due to the fact that the seller, who is also a client of John's, had faith that John could secure funding and close in record time. This was only our second home purchase, so we were still relatively new to the loan process. Our real estate agent, recommended John (and his colleague John Esplana) to us back in 2009 when we were getting lined up to buy our first home here in San Francisco. We had such a good experience the first time around, that I have done four refinancing with John Z. He's a super nice guy and: - He keeps me in mind when rates are dropping. - He's quick to review updated financial information. - He's SUPER responsive with respect to questions and deliverables. For example, with respect to issuing preapproval letters when we're making offers - not only is the turnaround time super quick, sometimes we're requesting them in the evenings and on weekends and he delivers within a couple hours!

I worked with John recently on getting a mortgage on my first house. I had a great experience very similar to Alisa's review above -- my home is in SF where the market is very hot and it was imperative that we closed very quickly.
